Surleigh Tara is the founder and CEO of Kahs In Kol, Inc., Pasifika United (dba), a non-profit ministry that identifies and equips leaders in growing Pacific Island communities to reach their communities with the Gospel. Originally from Malem, Kosrae, he is a Bible teacher, author, and information-systems professional, and a U.S. Armed Forces veteran who joined the Marine Corps in the middle of his second year of college. In his own words, he is a “self-publisher who believes God’s Word is the Absolute Truth that can transform lives.”

Ministry

Under Surleigh’s leadership, Kahs In Kol, Inc., Pasifika United (dba), has worked to empower individuals with the knowledge and resources to spread the Gospel throughout their communities. He strives to provide spiritual guidance for those facing hard times, bringing comfort and hope through Jesus Christ. He is passionate about reaching more people who need help and bringing joy and peace into their homes through the ministry’s efforts. He has served in ministry for more than 15 years and hosts the ministry’s weekly online teaching and worship LiveCast.

Teaching and Media

His YouTube channel, @Surleigh (opens in a new tab), has about 5,000 subscribers and hundreds of videos on how to read and interpret the Bible, expository preaching, Bible study, Kosraean church history, and worship music. He also hosts the Pasifika United Ministry Podcast on biblical interpretation, drawing on both academia and practical ministry.

Author

Through Pasifika Publishing (opens in a new tab), he wrote the Discipleship Call Series (The Call of Discipleship and From Discipleship to Leader), guides for mentors who disciple others. He also wrote The Age of Optimal Health, a health guide for men over 50 that combines scientific evidence with Pacific Islander wisdom.

Military Service

Surleigh is a U.S. Armed Forces veteran. In the middle of his second year of college, he joined the Marine Corps.

Education

He attended Kosrae High School and the Community College of Micronesia. He studied Management of Information Systems at Azusa Pacific University and holds a Master of Divinity. He is pursuing a Ph.D. in Bible Exposition at Liberty University School of Divinity.

Career

He is an Information Systems Analyst at Victor Valley College. Earlier roles include Business Enterprise Systems Analyst and IT at Azusa Pacific University, and Information Systems Administrator at the Center for Advanced Medicine.

Family and Roots

He is from Malem, Kosrae, Micronesia, and lives in Pinon Hills, California. He is the husband of Eleanor Marcus Tara and the father of four children. His family is grateful for the love and guidance God has given them, which allows him to fulfill his calling with Kahs In Kol, Inc., Pasifika United (dba).

A Letter From Surleigh

The primary focus of this 501(c)(3) ministry organization is to identify leaders in pockets of growing Pacific Island communities. As a vehicle of spreading the Gospel, our objective is to develop these young leaders to be pastors and great leaders by equipping them with necessary tools that they can successfully reach out to unchurched communities of Pacific Islanders. The Gospel is for all; therefore, the mission is not restricted to just Pacific Islanders but a starting point.

Bringing people together to study the Bible is the primary objective of the site. One of the most effective methods of discipleship is by sharpening one another (Proverbs 27:17) like iron sharpening iron. We can learn to have patience with one another. Patience is a virtue that believers must have as it is one of the traits of the fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23).

It is also vital to set aside time to be with God. Through prayers, we get to hear and talk to God. Although prayer is the most effective communication tool, busyness often keeps us away from utilizing it. Can you imagine how much better our spiritual walk would have been, had we set aside more time for prayers?
